Connect your tool

Pick your client and get numbered steps with ready settings files — install, connect, launch, choose a model, turn on thinking — with the gateway address already in place.

The guide

The guide below is interactive. Choose your client and your operating system, and it lays out numbered steps — install, connect, launch, choose a model and, where the client supports it, turn on thinking — with every settings file ready to copy or download and the path it goes to on your system.

The gateway address in those files is the one the platform publishes, and the model list is the live catalog. Every place a key goes reads <KUMO_TOKEN>: replace it with your key. In the console the same guide fills the key in for you — in the window that shows a new key, and in the Connect section, where a key you paste stays in that browser tab.

The clients it covers:

  • Terminal agents — Claude Code, OpenCode, Codex.
  • Editors — Cursor, Cline and Roo Code, Kilo Code, Continue.
  • Apps — Cherry Studio, OpenClaw, Hermes, Pi, DeepSeek Harness.
  • Code — curl, Python and Node, on both the Anthropic and the OpenAI protocol.

Claude Code

Replace <KUMO_TOKEN> with your API key.

  1. Install

    Install Claude Code with the official installer. Check it with claude --version.

    curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash
  2. Connect

    Save this file as your user settings. If it already exists, merge the env block and the model line into it. Claude Code sends the key as a bearer token to the Kumo address.

    ~/.claude/settings.json
    {
      "env": {
        "ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL": "https://api.kumorouter.com",
        "ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN": "<KUMO_TOKEN>",
        "ANTHROPIC_DEFAULT_OPUS_MODEL": "<model>",
        "ANTHROPIC_DEFAULT_SONNET_MODEL": "<model>",
        "ANTHROPIC_DEFAULT_HAIKU_MODEL": "<model>"
      },
      "model": "<model>"
    }

  3. Launch

    Start Claude Code in your project folder; /status shows the address in use. If a model answers 400 about beta fields, add CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_EXPERIMENTAL_BETAS=1 to the env block.

    claude
  4. Models

    Switch models with /model in a session, or start with claude --model. These models answer over the Anthropic protocol:

    No published model works with this client yet. Replace <model> with a model id when one appears.

    claude --model <model>
    • <model>
  5. Thinking

    Thinking is on by default. Set the effort with /effort, toggle thinking with Alt+T, or keep the choice in settings.json with alwaysThinkingEnabled and effortLevel.

    Kumo accepts this setting but does not pass it to the model yet: the model reasons with its own default budget.

    /effort high

If the page is read as Markdown

The steps are assembled in the page from the live catalog and the gateway address, so the Markdown form of this page carries only the description above. An agent reading it can take the per-tool guides instead, or the generic prompt on the integrations page.
